SEN Teacher

About the Role:

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Qualified Teacher to join a dynamic team at a well-established Special Needs School catering to students aged 6-16 with a range of needs, including ASD/ADHD/SEMH/SLCN. The successful candidate will have a strong background in managing challenging behaviours, a compassionate approach to teaching, and the ability to tailor learning strategies to meet the individual needs of each student. Experience in a SEN setting is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess lessons in a way that accommodates the individual learning styles and needs of students with special educational needs.
  • Effectively manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with other professionals to ensure each student’s personal, academic, and social development is supported.
  • Create a nurturing, safe, and structured environment that encourages engagement and learning.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and other professionals to deliver a coordinated approach to student care and education.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular updates to parents and other stakeholders.
  • Adapt teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring that lessons are accessible and engaging for all learners.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. - essential
  • Proven experience working in a special needs setting, ideally with students aged 6-16 with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and experience in managing complex and challenging behaviours in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to create a positive and effective learning environment.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to teaching with a commitment to promoting inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Experience with or willingness to implement individualised learning programs for students with a range of special needs.

Desirable Skills:

  • Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) or similar behavioural management frameworks.
  • Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, or other learning difficulties.
  • Previous experience working with students with complex needs in a school or educational setting.

We're on the hunt for Teaching Assistants to support students across secondary schools across the UK. You’ll be working in the SEN department, helping pupils thrive in their learning—whether that’s one-on-one, in small groups, or supporting the wider classroom. You will also be working in mainstream classes, supporting the class teachers in the delivery of the lessons.

Experience with SEN is a bonus—but not a dealbreaker. What matters most is your energy, empathy, and enthusiasm. Maybe you’ve done youth work, sports coaching, or you’re studying psychology? If you know how to build rapport and motivate young people, you're halfway there.
